3D Signage for Business: How Dimensional Signs Elevate Your Brand
Walk into any high-end office, hotel lobby or flagship retail store and you’ll almost always see the same thing: a dimensional sign on the wall behind the reception desk. Not a printed banner. Not a vinyl decal. A physical sign with depth, texture and presence that says this business takes itself seriously.
3D signage — layered signs, floating letters, standoff-mounted logos — is no longer the preserve of large corporations. Laser cutting has made it accessible to any business, at almost any budget. Here’s what you need to know.
What Is 3D Business Signage?
3D signage refers to any sign with physical depth rather than a flat printed surface. There are three main types:
1. Standoff (Floating) Letter Signs
Individual letters or a logo panel mounted on chrome or black standoff pins, creating a 10–20mm gap between the sign and wall. The gap casts a shadow that changes with the light throughout the day — an effect impossible to replicate with flat printing.
Best for: Reception walls, lobby features, boardroom name bars, shopfront branding.
From: $145 for a 300mm logo sign. See Floating 3D Signs →
2. Layered Dimensional Signs
Two or three layers of different materials (acrylic on timber, acrylic on MDF, or mixed materials) stacked to create physical depth. The face layer is your text or logo; the backing layer creates a contrasting frame. Mounted flat to the wall.
Best for: Smaller reception areas, café counters, retail displays, awards and recognition plaques.
From: $85 for an A4 two-layer sign. See Layered Signs →
3. Layered Combo Signs
Our most premium product — 3 to 5 layers mixing acrylic, timber, metal inserts and foam spacers for maximum visual impact. Every element is precision laser-cut and assembled in-house.
Best for: Feature walls, franchise signage, luxury retail, corporate headquarters.
From: $165 for a small combo. See Layered Combo Signs →
Why 3D Signs Beat Flat Printing
| 3D Sign | Printed/Vinyl Sign | |
|---|---|---|
| Perceived quality | Premium / architectural | Budget / temporary |
| Durability | 10+ years (acrylic/metal) | 2–5 years |
| Photography | Photographs beautifully — depth reads in photos | Flat — can look cheap in photos |
| Client impression | Signals investment and permanence | Can signal temporary or budget |
| Cost | From $85 (small) to $500+ (feature wall) | From $30 (small) — but needs replacing |

Corona Bar
Backlit acrylic letters and a layered bar sign for a Sydney venue. Gold mirror acrylic on a dark backing, with standoff mounting. The result photographs beautifully — the bar appears in dozens of Instagram posts every week. View portfolio →
