How Much Do Custom Signs Cost in Australia? A 2026 Pricing Guide

Custom signage pricing in Australia varies widely — from a few dollars for a simple nameplate to thousands for a large illuminated lobby installation. The challenge is that most signage suppliers don’t publish prices, making it hard to know if you’re getting a fair deal. This guide breaks down what custom signs actually cost in 2026, what drives price, and how to get the best value.

What Determines the Cost of a Custom Sign?

Four main factors drive price:

  1. Material — Acrylic, MDF, timber, aluminium and stainless all have different base costs. Acrylic mirror finishes and specialist colours cost more than standard opaque stock.
  2. Thickness — Thicker material (10mm, 20mm) requires slower cutting speeds and more powerful laser passes. A 20mm acrylic letter costs roughly 1.8× more to cut than the same letter in 3mm.
  3. Cut path complexity — The total length of cutting required. A simple rectangle takes seconds; a complex serif font or intricate logo takes much longer.
  4. Finish and mounting — Painted, printed, or assembled signs add labour and materials. Standoff mounting hardware, installation templates and assembled kits add cost.

Acrylic Letter Pricing (Per Letter)

This is the most common custom sign request — individual letters and words for reception walls, retail displays and office signage.

Letter Height 3mm Standard Acrylic 10mm Acrylic Mirror Acrylic (+25%)
50mm $6.50 $9.10 $8.10–$11.40
80mm $9.50 $13.30 $11.90–$16.60
100mm $12.00 $16.80 $15.00–$21.00
150mm $18.00 $25.20 $22.50–$31.50
200mm $28.00 $39.20 $35.00–$49.00
300mm $45.00 $63.00 $56.25–$78.75

Prices per letter, ex GST. Volume discounts apply: 10% for 10+ letters, 15% for 20+, 20% for 50+.

Real example: “SMITH & JONES LAWYERS” in 150mm gold mirror acrylic

That’s 19 characters (spaces are free). At 150mm gold mirror: 19 × $22.50 = $427.50 for 3mm, or 19 × $31.50 = $598.50 for 10mm, ex GST. Add $25 for standoff mounting kit if required.

Custom Logo & Shaped Signs

For logos, icons and shaped signs (not just letter sets), pricing is based on cut path length. A simple logo in 3mm acrylic might be $45–$120; a complex multi-layer logo sign for a reception wall is typically $250–$800.

Job Type Typical Price Range (ex GST)
Simple logo cut, 3mm acrylic, A4 size $35–$65
Reception logo, 10mm acrylic, 500mm wide $120–$250
Floating 3D reception logo, 20mm, 600–800mm $280–$550
Full reception name + logo installation kit $400–$1,200

Engraved Gifts and Personalised Items

Item Typical Price Range
Engraved slate/timber gift item (e.g. cheese board) $25–$75
Personalised keyring or coaster $8–$20 each
Corporate gift sets (engraved timber or acrylic) $45–$150 per set
Wedding table settings / place cards $6–$18 each

What’s Included in Every Job

Prices from Laser Cut Pack & Send include:

  • File prepress check
  • Digital proof by email before cutting
  • 2–5 business day production
  • Professional packing (foam-wrapped, boxed)
  • Transit insurance

A $15 setup fee applies to new files. This covers machine setup and prepress time. Reorders of the same file don’t attract the setup fee again.

How to Get the Best Value

  1. Order in volume — Discounts kick in at 10, 20 and 50+ pieces. If you’re furnishing a whole office or ordering for a chain, the savings are significant.
  2. Choose standard acrylic colours — Our stock colours are ready to cut immediately. Custom-ordered specialist sheets add lead time and cost.
  3. Send a production-ready file — Files that need significant rework attract file setup charges. Use our File Setup guide to prepare yours correctly.
  4. Combine items in one job — The $15 setup fee is per job, not per item. Getting your door signs, reception letters and office nameplates cut in one order saves setup fees on each.
  5. Use our online configurator for instant pricing — Our Acrylic Letters Custom Builder gives you a live price in under 60 seconds. No waiting for a quote, no emails.

Is Custom Signage Worth the Investment?

For most businesses, yes — especially at the reception or point-of-first-impression. A professionally made acrylic sign for a law firm or medical clinic might cost $400–$800 and last 10+ years. Spread over the life of the sign, that’s $40–$80 per year for something that communicates professionalism every single day.

The bigger risk is cheap signage. Printed vinyl that peels, foam letters that yellow, or inkjet-printed panels that fade — these communicate the wrong things about your brand.
